Donald Eric McNair (April 12, 1909 - March 11, 1949), was a Major League Baseball shortstop from 1929-1942. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago White Sox. In his first season as a major league regular (1932), he led the American League in doubles with 47. McNair died of a heart attack at the age of 39. Major League Baseball (MLB) is the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada, consisting of teams that play in the National League and the American League. The two leagues merged in 2000 into a single MLB organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball after 100 years as separate legal entities.
