Eren Derdiyok (born 12 June 1988 in Basel) is a Kurdish - Swiss footballer who plays as a striker. At 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) Derdiyok is a powerful striker who can also fill in a centre-back if needed. He started his career with Swiss minnows BSC Old Boys at the beginning of the 2005-06 season in which scored 10 goals in just 18 appearances. FC Basel noticed his goal scoring instinct and snapped him up in 2006 at the age of 18. In the 2006-07 season, Derdiyok was used mainly as a substitute, playing only one full game, and averaging a total of 220 play minutes that season. For Derdiyok, the 2007-08 season proved to be a lot more fruitful and he received regular playing time.
