Five firms have submitted estimates and specifications for steam motor-vans, as follows: Proposals Received.--The Lancashirc Steam Motor Co., l I-eyiand, will build a steam-motor dust-van for $1,550. The tip van to carry 6 cu. yds. of dust, the weight of dust not to exceed four (long) tons. The body of the van to be made of ash supported with ironwork. The underirame to be channel steel filled up with oak. The engine and boiler to be placed alongside the driver's seat, within a covered shelter for the driver. The engine to be a compound steam engine of about 14% HP., to have a speed of four miles an hour; and the boiler to be composed Qt patent copper conical tubes, and to work at 200 lbs. per sq. in. The firing is done by a patent automatic oil-firing apparatus, which keeps the working pressure steady; it is quite independent of the driver's attention after he has once lighted the burner. The consumption oi oil does not exceed two gallons per hour when in full work. The commonest paraffin oil is used. The Lancashire Steam Motor Co. are the makers of steam road vehicles and lawn mowers. Messrs. T.
