In the second book of the Arcana Chronicles Evie has now fully come into her powers as the tarot Empress. And Jackson was there to see it all.

In the aftermath of killing Arthur, the tarot Alchemist, Evie realizes that a war is brewing between the other teens that, following the apocalypse, have been given powers and its kill or be killed. Things get even more complicated when Evie meets Death, the mysterious, sexy Endless Knight. Somehow the Empress and Death share a romantic history - one that Evie can't remember, but Death can't forget. She is drawn to the Endless Knight, but is in love with Jack. Determined to discover why she's been granted these powers, Evie struggles to accept her place in a prophecy that will either save the world, or completely destroy it.

Don't read any further if you want to avoid spoilers for Poison Princess or Endless Knight! Whoa! What did I just read? I think my head is still spinning and trying to comprehend what happened in there. Am I mad? Am I happy? Am I confused? Well, I have no idea! But either way, I'll try to explain it to you. Endless Knight starts just where Poison Princess left off. We finally get to know what happens after that cruel cliffhanger (Kresley Cole, I'm pointing at you!). Evie has just killed the Alchemist, and they have to decide what are they going to do next right away, because new dangers are lurking from every corner. There are 17 Arcana left who may want to kill them (Evie, Selena, Matthew, Finn & the dead Alchemist excluded), there are awful cannibals & Bagmans who are getting stronger. Will Evie accept the fact that she has to kill every other Arcana in order to survive, or will she fight it? From the first page, Endless Knight is packed with action. It practically screams, I AM A BOOK OF ACTION! There are awesome battles happening one after the other. There are unexpected twists happening with every page you turn. Evie is more that aware of her powers and she's not afraid to use them. Endless Knight is in many ways different from other sequels. As sequels mostly tend to be calmer, be the bridge between the first and third book, this one is anything but calm. Yes, it did set a great foundation for the book three, but I'm right to say this: I've never read a second book so good. Do you all remember our dear ol' Jack? Yes, yes? Well romance takes an interesting direction in this book. Now, why do I say interesting? We get the love-triangle... I'm not a fan of love-triangles, and mostly I avoid reading books that feature them, but I didn't mind it in this one actually. I was a big fan of Jack in the first book. I really liked him. He's still the same here, moody guy most of the time, but quite likable. But then came Death. I fell in LOVE with him. My heart ached for him and I cheered for him. I always suspected he must have had some bigger role in all this then just wanting to kill Evie and whispering in her ear. The connection between them felt so much more real, so much more genuine. I really, really, REALLY hope Kresley Cole won't **** it up. I have only mentioned here a few things that made me love Endless Knight so much, but there is SO MUCH MORE to it than just the things I mentioned. Trust me, you really don't want to miss this series! From the amazingly unique theme (Tarot Cards killing each other, hello?) to the horrible cliffhangers I secretly love (did you really have to do it again, Cole?!?), The Arcana Chronicles is an amazing series and you should read it!show more

I'm a big fan of Cole's but I have to admit that I wasn't thrilled with the "Poison Princess". I wasn't interested in following Evie's story but a friend insisted I give Endless Knight a chance. Reluctantly, I bought the book and now I'm glad I did. Endless Knight is compelling. Who could have imagined that Death could be such a lovable and hot character. He's complicated, sophisticated and passionate. Evie grows and matures significantly and the love triangle she, Jackson and Death get involved in is sizzling. I can't wait for the third installment. Oh, I loved that Death has a name. Is Aric sexy, or is it just me?show more

Picking up where Poison Princess left us, Endless Knight starts with a bang! Evie has completely come into her Empress powers and is a force to reckoned with. Can the human cajun, Jackson cope with her supernatural destiny? Evie’s gang of Tarot characters have come to a truce to take out Death – but it’s not going to be easy. Other characters – like the Tower and Strength – come into play and Death is still haunting Evie’s thoughts. I loved how Evie has evolved since the first novel. Where she was once a cheerleader and model student, now she’s the Empress – poisoned spurs, magical blood and all. She knows that she has a part to play in the Arcana duel but wants things to end differently this time around. Forming a truce with Selena (The Moon), Matthew (The Fool) and Finn (the Magician), Evie hopes that Jackson will still stay true to his word and lead the misfit group to Evie’s grandmother for more information about past games. There’s so much action in this book! More than once I was worried that Evie and her friends weren’t going to survive intact as a group. The new ‘cards’ introduced were interesting and I liked to see their take on the game and their roles within it. The highlight for me was Death – he’s so much more than the devious voice in Evie’s head and finding out more about his and his history as a person and within the game was incredible. It really changed the game for me. I was a little surprised at just how ruthless characters are – not just ones you’d expect it from like Death, but Evie is definitely a little more brutal and cruel with the toll of the Flash and Death in her head taking its toll. Jackson is different from the first book and we get to see another side to the Cajun bad boy. Romance wise this book does have some nice moments. Kresley Cole does write some sizzling male characters and some breathtaking romantic scenes. I fall in love with a new character every book I read of hers. Things advance and regress with her relationships and characters felt more realistic and less flawless because of some events. I can’t wait for the third book in the Arcana Chronicles – especially after the cliff-hanger Endless Knight left us on! I’m excited to see which other ‘cards’ are introduced as well as what happens to the characters that I adore like Jackson and Death.show more
