About Isak Dinesen

Isak Dinesen was the pen-name of Karen Blixen. Born in Denmark in 1885, Blixen studied art in Copenhagen, Paris and Rome before marrying Baron Blixen-Finecke in 1914. The couple moved to a coffee-plantation in Kenya. After their divorce in 1921, Blixen stayed alone on the farm returning home to Rungsted, Denmark following the death of her lover in a plane crash. Her first major work, Seven Gothic Tales was published in 1934, followed in 1937 by her memoirs Out of Africa. She died in 1962.
