Edward Applebaum (born September 28, 1937) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. He began his career as a jazz pianist and conductor. He holds a B.A. (1962), M.A. (1963), and Ph.D. (1966) from the University of California, Los Angeles, and also studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. His primary teachers were Henri Lazarof and Lukas Foss. He also studied in Sweden with Ingvar Lidholm. He teaches composition at the University of Houston and formerly taught at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Texas, Edith Cowan University in Australia, the University of California, Santa Barbara, Florida State University, and in Norway. He also lectures at The Jung Center of Houston. His notable students include Donald Crockett.
