From Table LXVI it is evident that whereas in 1918, the county and the school district were of almost equal importance as sources of elementary school revenue, in 1920 the districts bore approximately one and one-half times as large a portion of the school burden as the county. In the case of the high schools the portion of the burden borne by the districts versus that borne by the counties increased from 1.4 times as great in 1918 to 2.8 times as great in 1920. It would be interesting and valuable to carry further our consideration of the various sources of school revenue already described, particularly with a view of determining still further the relative importance of the same, actual and potential. But we must without delay turn to the next major division of our study, namely, California's method of disbursing her school revenues. HOW SCHOOL MON EYS ARE APPORTIONED AND USED Some school moneys reach the schools in the form of federal, state, or county grants of definite amounts for specified projects; others, as variable quotas of funds distributed by methods which aim to equalize educational burdens and opportunities.
