Review Text

Described as 'a black suburban comedy' Huth's latest novel begins far from ominously. William and Grace Handle - he a gifted violinist, leader of a flourishing musical quartet she a wild-flower painter of minor talent - are, a middle-aged, devoted couple living for the most part in 'easy silence' and acceptance of each other's foibles. Almost simultaneously they meet, and are tempted by, a new companion who threatens their loving amity and mutual support even, startlingly, their very lives. This reviewer found her suspension of disbelief somewhat stretched; although as we all know, the blandest of surfaces can conceal the most raging of passions and it is always dangerous to declare they would never have done it.
