Review Text

Derived from the 2 volumes of the Oxford Illustrated Encyclopedia which were devoted to world history, this a to z reference spans prehistory to the present. It boasts entries for every country with spot maps and current statistical information, cross-references, 25 historical maps along with comprehensive updating of comtemporary subjects and new entries on recent events and concepts in history. With over 4,000 entries packed into just under 700 pages the type is a little on the small side, but this will nevertheless be a useful quick reference tool for the general reader.
