It was made up with great care, alphabetically arranged, with blank spaces left for filling in, and the matter consisted of advertisements clipped from the daily newspapers. She gave as a reason for compiling this unique work that advertisements in the daily newspapers were ephemeral: they were destroyed with the paper containing them; and she had often been vexed beyond measure at her failure to recall mentally, street, address, and descriptions of things she had seen advertised months before.
