This books, along with Seduce me at Sunrise, is my favourite Kleypas. There is something about a man who shows the woman he loves her in every way physically possible, but can never utter those three words - should be frustrating, but instead makes for a sweet tale. Evangeline Jenner is painfully shy, yet she finds enough courage to escape the oppression of her family and makes a shocking proposition to Sebastian, Viscount St. Vincent: a rake, a rouge and a scoundrel.
Broke, he agrees. Yet once they return to normality, after their mad dash to Gretna, he realises just how pervasive Evie has become in his life. But of course it takes him a while to realise, and even longer to tell her, whilst poor Evie suffers thinking she means nothing.
Perhaps a premise that has been done a few times, but really, does anyone do it better than Klepyas?
Highly recommend.show more
