If they find upon investigation that their people have justly reciprocated all the lawful requirements of international subjects, with peaceful intention fully sustained in act, and that they have only become obnoxious in peaceful competition with the other races who are combined against them, they can only appeal to the justice of their rights, and await the recuperative ability and energy that ever attends upon temperance and its peaceful surroundings, and one voucher of assurance they possess which will attest from the comparatively well preserved condition of their teeth, that since the partial revival of the observance of hygenic laws of temperance they have gained rapidly in all the physical and mental advantages of health. In sequence as the grade conformation of the jaw, in comparative relation to the past and future, denote the advance or retrograde condition of the animal system, so in union the corresponding contour of the mouth under the influence of teeth usage, give decisively the bias of ruling intelligence, whether sensual or intellectual, predestinating in forecast the supremacy of nations in the scale of natural capacity for the command of power. If comparisons were not personally and politically invidious, we might cite the leading personal directors of factional power in Europe and America to sustain the physio-pathological distinctions of our illustrative demonstration.
