Description
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie's a "demon," one of only two in the world-the other being her father. What's worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a risky procedure that will either destroy her powers forever - or kill her.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new housemates? They're demons too. Meaning "someone" is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they're using Acher to do it. But it's not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

This is the second book in the Hex Hall Series. Hecate Hall, which the students call Hex Hall, is a reform school for prodigium, that is witches, shapeshifters, faeries etc. In the first book, titled Hex Hall, we see the main character, Sophie Mercer, sent to Hex Hall for having performed magic at her high school. During her time there, some devastating events take place leading her to want to have her powers removed as she discovers she is a demon, not a witch as she thought, and that herself and her father are the only two demons in the world. Her father is head of the Council of Prodigium, a role which she herself will one day take on. She befriends a vampire and discovers that her crush, Archer Cross is a member of the "Eye", a group who want to wipe out prodigium.
In Demonglass, Sophie goes to spend the summer with her dad at the council headquarters in England. He hopes to change her mind about going through the removal. He works with her to help her to control her magic and thereby improve it so as not to demon out someday and kill someone, as she fears will happen. She meets Nick and Daisy, two demons who have been "created with a purpose", but why and by whom and are there more of them. This is what her dad is working to find out and Sophie tries to help. She meets up with Archer again but understands that this will be frowned upon by her dad and the council and tries not to act on the feelings she still has for him. We do finally get to hear Archer's back story having been wondering how a warlock comes to be working with the Eye.
Demonglass ends on a major cliffhanger which leaves the reader begging for more. It is fast paced and you will not want to put it down. Sophie is great fun with a sarcastic answer for everything, which will have you laughing throughout.
I would recommend this book for anyone who likes YA paranormal romance.show more

Also reviewed on my blog, The Vintage Bookworm. (http://www.vintagebookworm.blogspot.com)
You can tell Sophie has grown a lot since the first book, she's through a lot since arriving at Hecate (a.k.a Hex Hall). There was a lot more action, which I totally loved. Also, a bit of a "which side should I be on in this sort-of love triangle?" which I loved as well, believe it or not. I mean, it annoyed me a little bit at times, but other times I loved it. Though at some points I couldn't figure out which guy I was rooting for more. And after finishing, I still am not completely sure if I'm Team Archer or Team Cal.
The characters are great. I really love Sophie as the main character/protagonist. She's snarky, fun and just an overall great and real character. I also really love Jenna, I'm glad Sophie has her. She's a great character and really adds to the story. Well, actually, all the characters have something pretty interesting about them.
Overall, the writing drags you in and holds you just as the first one did. Hawkins really knows how to write. I can't see what she comes up with for the third book in the series. Also, I'm really glad you get to learn more about demons in the sequel. The only thing I really that bugged me at times was I could predict a few things would happen, though it didn't take away from the story. =)
The cover is really cool. I love how it shows kind of a mirror image. Love both book covers in this series.show more

After last year's crazy semester, Sophie's father is coming to Hex Hall. Sophie's nervous. She's never met her father; plus, he's the head of the magical council. He arrives just in time to see her survive yet another catastrophe - one that put her life on the line, again.
After witnessing what demons can do, Sophie's determined to have her powers removed. However, as head of the Council, her father must agree to the procedure. He's not giving her permission. Instead, he's taking her to England for the summer.
This time together will be a chance for father/daughter bonding time, as well as a chance for Sophie to learn more about herself. She prepares for an easy summer with her BFF, Jenna (a vampire), by her side. She's blindsided by the knowledge that someone's raising demons for weapons, and that her ex-crush, Archer, can't stay away from her, even if it means putting his life in danger.
DEMONGLASS is an entertaining and engrossing read that kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I loved the plot twists, the romance triangle, the layers of magic and knowledge, and Sophie's snark and wit. I also loved watching the relationship develop between Sophie and her father. Plus, it ends on a huge cliffhanger that torments readers who are already eager for book three!

I was spell bound from page one until the end, and then I wanted even more.
Though I'd forgotten a bit, there was a nice refresher that came naturally, and it came back :) Sophie is still amazing and sarcastic. I laughed so much, and I loved that she could always lessen the tension with her comments.
I couldn't decide between Archer and Cal, they are both awesome, and have their own merits. They are both well developed, and though I have a feeling who Sophie will chose, I am still torn. Cal played a bigger role in this one, and maybe added to my feelings.
Jenna is in this one too, and she shows a lot of growth.
I ended up really liking Sophie's Dad, he's solid and I was shocked by some of the things revealed.
I totally wasn't expecting a lot of things in this book, and the ending made me wish I already had the 3rd in my hands!show more
