Review quote

"A fascinating blend between Matheson's "I Am Legend" and Collins's "The Hunger Games", "Dark Inside" will engross readers from the first written words, leaving them captivated by strong, compelling characters as well as the savage, destructive world they have to survive. Told from split narrations, a sense of unity is established that furthers the plot considerably and brings urgency and life to the book. Well-written and brilliant, "Dark Inside" will not disappoint."--"VOYA"show more

Our customer reviews

Dark Inside was a fantastic yet disturbing read. Although I shouldn't judge books by their cover, it looked a bit boy orientated which I found a little peturbing after finding Gone disappointing. The story was interesting and easy to follow. Right from the beginning, I was thrown into a world that had been completely shaken up by an earthquake and the consequent turning of a group of humans into zombies. This is my first zombie novel and it surprised me how much I liked it. The zombies weren't described as being overly gruesome but were infact quite hard to distinguish from humans, which made them even more frightening and dangerous. There seemed to always be some tension between the main characters and whoever they met, for this reason, which really built up the suspense. The story is told in four points of view, by Mason, Michael, Clementine and Aries, all of whom I found to be very interesting and well developed. It was interesting to see how their different situations in different places affected them. The 'Nothing' point of view was effective, but I did think it could've been developed some more. I found the whole situation to be really captivating and the writing was good. The descriptions really did make me feel unnerved at points, the atmosphere was terrifying and on-edge. There was action throughout but it wasn't too much, the book did feel well balanced. I wasn't wholly satisfied with the ending and though it was nice to see the protagonists unite, I think it could've been even more exciting and expanded upon. This was much better than expected and I'd love to see more from Roberts.show more

Is your mum a killer? Is your dad a killer? What about your 11 year old sister? The Dark Inside could affect anyone... even you. The world has gone wrong in Dark Inside, and Jeyn Roberts wastes no time in getting to the plot of the story. Using four main characters, we read about their experiences through having to fight to survive, and their encounters with various other characters. And I must say this book is the only book I've read that had me filled with tension and, to be honest, fear. The characters become travelers and living on whatever they can find. With no electricity, no communication, no home... the only positive thing to come out of this is no need for money, but when hell has been born on earth, money isn't so important, right? Roberts has beautifully written this book. From start to end I was engrossed in the use of description for the new world. Such vivid images sprung into my mind, which helped to create a more real feeling of the story as I actually felt like I was involved with the book. And throughout the book I just kept thinking, what if this happened in real life? Would I be able to survive? Roberts had me so engaged with the book that when I'd put it down I had to remember that I was actually in a world where no one was killing each other, we didn't have to fight to survive and everyone I loved was alive. A truly amazing book, I am so glad I had the chance to read this, I literally did not want to put it down!show more

Earthquakes rock the earth places crumble to ash and people are killed within a blink of an eye but the worse is still to come. Evil has been set free and is changing people into something dark. Killers and hunters ready to tear you apart. Four teens Mason, Aries, Clementine and Michael each in different places fighting to stay alive and to keep the darkness out there souls. Will they live through the horror that awaits them at every corner. In the course of the book you manly follow four characters they are all different and the author has put them together really well. You follow the journey of these characters from the beginning from the not understanding what's going on to the having to survive. It's emotional and scary and you sometimes wonder if the characters are just going to give in. The book was dark and deeply twisted in a way I really loved. Each character was not only trying to stay alive but was trying to keep this evil from getting inside them. It was a rollercoaster of action and fear and horror and I loved every page till the very end. The book was well written and easy to get into because you are thrown right into none stop action from the very start. There are scares, shocks and so much more I don't want to give too much away but you need to read this book. 5 stars This book is dark and deeply twisted and shockingly fantasticshow more
