On Merm, one of four known worlds, momentous changes are afoot. Intrinsically linked to these changes and unaware how much her life of fifteen summers is to be shattered and reshaped beyond all imagining, is a girl, Ionuin. Incredible powers, so devastatingly strong that if they should be unleashed in their entirety, whole civilisations will be blitzed from existence. Personifications of Dark and Light are indulging themselves, attempting to force the outcome they desire. Half a world apart, a seeker, Taj, responsible for finding gifted inhabitants in this arid land, strives to connect with Ionuin, but he has monsters of his own to conquer. The Dark Dragon has broached Merm's ancient defences and plans total destruction. Taj and Ionuin, aided by the remnants of a once great dragon race, are the last hope of the Light, and all worlds await the outcome of the looming titanic battle, knowing that if they fail, all life is lost. The Clysm begins, the Reckoning and the eternal struggle between Dark and Light forces erupts in a frenetic war.
