The story is about a little girl who lives in China. The little girl finds a cricket and keeps the cricket hidden in her hat.

Everywhere she goes, the cricket in her hat is chirping away, and all the people stare at her in a very strange way.

She takes the cricket hidden in her hat to the shop, the school, and the restaurant till her mum finds it while cleaning her room.

After, the little girl and her mum let it go.

The Chinese people keep crickets for pets in bamboo cages and listen to them chirping, like we in the Western world keep finches and budgies for pets in bird cages and listen to them singing.
