It is a clarifying device as Old as Socrates to require of one who ventures to maintain a proposition, that he define his terms by way of preface to his discourse. In the spirit of this venerable practice, then, before I set forth my views on the need of a Cath olic literary revival in the United States, I shall endeavor brieﬂy to explain what I understand by this subject.
