I referred in my testimony on the former trial to the mortgage made by Stephen Van Renssalaer, and in that case I say made the check payable to Van Renssalaer; that I know; I remember that. Q. Why, if you paid that mortgage by a check directly to the mortgagee, did you not draw your 1 check in this case? A. I have been in the habit of paying the interest to Stephen Van Renssaelaer, and he was the only person I knew in connection with it.
