This led to the investigation of all our pins and brought to our notice the fact that the pins worn by the vice presidents general and State regents were reproductions of the Grand Army eagle. At the meeting of the national board of management on April 21, 1919, it was voted that the board ratify the selection of new designs for the active officers and vice-presidents general "and that the board accept a new design for the president general's pin. Designs were therefore submitted and approved by the board on June 25, 1919, and the firm of J. E. Caldwell & Co., which has always made our official insignia, was given the contract to make the new pins. These pins are original designs and not reproductions of the badges of other societies. The above-mentioned firm assumed all necessary expenses incurred in the adoption of the new designs. In view of the fact that the contract for the official insignia and chapter regent's bar was awarded to J. E. Caldwell & Co. by the continental congress, the insignia committee recommends that the contract with J. E. Caldwell & Co. for these additional official pins authorized by the society be approved by the congress and appended to the previous congressional contract. The fact that the cost of manufacturing the recognition pin exceeds the price for which it is now sold has been brought to the attention of the insignia committee. The actual cost of the pin is $1.29 and the selling price has always been $1.
