Can you remember sufficiently well to tell the court, when you got downstairs, what was done and what you saw up until the time the company was marched around to take their place behind the barracks?--A. Well, I will tell it as near as I can remember it, sir. Q. Who came down with you, what you saw, how they were doing it, and so on?--A. Well, I paid no attention to any individual who came down with me; everything was in confusion and we were rushing downstairs, several fellows in front of me and beside me, all rushing down. As soon as I got downstairs I rushed right out and into line. Q. Had they ordered the line formed then?--A. No, sir. I had heard no order for the line to be formed, but there was about a squad of men in line already formed who had preceded me down there. Q. Do you remember the names of any of them?--A. No, sir. Q. Did you see anybody else just then--any officer?--A. When Q. No; I mean at the time you rushed to the line?--A. No, sir. Q. What noncommissioned officer did you see?--A. I do not recall seeing any noncommissioned officer. Q. No noncommissioned officer?--A. No, sir; saw Maj. Penrose coming across the parade ground. Q. How far away was he from you?--A. Well, he wasn't very far from me. Q. Near enough to know him?--A. I recognized him when he got close enough. Q. He was there before Sergt. Sanders?--A. Yes, sir. Q. Now go on?--A.
