During the fiscal year 1906 there were manufactured by the mints and assay offices of the United States gold and silver bars of the value of $124,795,691.44. Tables will be found in the appendix showing in detail the character of bars manufactured at each institution during the year. WORK OF THE GOVERNMENT REFINERIES. There were received and operated upon by the refineries connected with the mints at Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Denver and the assay office at New York, during the fiscal year 1906, gold bullion containing 3,820,944.542 standard ounces, and silver bullion containing 8,724,887.16 standard ounces, of the total coining value of $81,239,936.27, as shown by the following table: SILVER BULLION ON WHICH CHARGES WERE COLLECTED. In order to show the amount of the above-mentioned silver bullion treated by the Government refineries on which charges were received and the amount handled for parting purposes the following table is presented: The figures given above represent the amount of silver received by the melter and refiner and charged to the refinery, but as it was used over and over it does not represent the whole amount of silver used or sent to the refinery.
