Not illustrated. 1901 edition. Excerpt: ...1900, by Maj. J. H. Willard, Corps of Engineers, upon preliminary examination authorized by the emergency river and harbor act approved June 6, 1900, as follows: Rock River, at the head of the feederfor the Illinois and Mississippi Canal Illinois: With a view to the construction of a lock and a dam in Rock River in connection with said canal. Tho dam in Hock River referred to is already provided for in connection with the feeder line for the Illinois and Mississippi Canal now being constructed under the continuing-contract system, and the insertion of a lock in the dam is desired by the citizens of the cities of Sterling and Rockfalls, with a view to extending the navigation that may take place through the canal and over that portion of the river above the dam down to and along the river fronts of the business portions of both cities.
