He is now old and feeble?--A. Yes, sir; he was at that time, y. Ihat testimony was taken?--A. Yes, sir. W ith the clerical force you have in the district court, the cases between the two courts have been practically about equally divided?--A. They have been for the last six months. Q. Don't you think it would be advisable, and that the effect would be to prevent naturalization, if the papers, first and second, required something to identify the applicant by, as well as the witnesses, more than residence, such as giving his height, color of his hair, and color of his eyes?--A. It might. Q. The same as in the Army?--A. It might; yes, sir. Q. It would not be attended with a great deal of inconvenience, would it, if the clerks were required to exact from each witness his present residence, giving the town and the street in the town, and his former residence for ten years, and the names and residences of his parents, so as to identify him?--A. It would be some trouble. Q. But it would be a safeguard against fraudulent naturalization?--A. Yes, sir. Q. In what class, in your experience of applicants, is there more danger of fraudulent naturalization than any other. I mean now, as to age?--A. Oh, the class that come here before they are 18 years of age; that say they came here. It is almost wholly confined to that class. Q.
