The increase of duties on leather, and the introduction of duty on coal are agitated, and will no doubt cause considerable debate in the next session of the Reichstag. It is but too evident that the import and export industry of this country is on the eve of a total revolution. The last changes in the German tariff are of considerable importance and will no doubt attract attention in the United States. Wheat is in future subject to a duty of 3 marks (71.4 cents), also rye. The vote stood 187 to 139. The "Conservatives," the "Reichspartei," the majority of the "Center," the deputies from Poland, and the minority of the "National Liberals," voted for the increase, of duties; the majority of the "National Liberals," the "Freisinnizen," " Social Democrats," and "People's Party," against such measures. The duty upon oats is now 1.50 marks; corn, 1 mark; barley, 1.50 marks; buckwheat, 1 mark; and cotton-seed free. It will be observed that the duty on petroleum remains undisturbed; mineral lubricating oil, however, not subject to duty heretofore, $2.38 per 100 kilograms; spirituous liquors increased from $11.42 to $19.04; fresh and prepared meats from $2.85 to $4.76; mill products (flour, &c.) from 71 cents to $1.78J; oysters, lobsters, &c, from $5.71 to $11.90; lard remains unchanged.
