Holderness wapentake, S.D.--POPULA'MON, 401; CHURCH-ROOM, 3501; NET VALUE, l041.--Here was a Church at the time of the Domesday Survey; also a priest and thirty-two villanes, and thirteen bordars, having nine ploughs. This Church was of the patronage and jurisdiction of the Collegiate Church of Beverley, to which it was appropriated 22nd May 1361. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. Impropriator, W. Fewson, Esq. No endowment is given. The first Vicar named in Torre's catalogue was instituted in 1587. The Church is valued in Pope Nicho1'as's taxation, at 291. 18s. 4d.; in the King's books, the Vicarage is valued at 51. 4s.; Procurations to Beverley, 10s.: in the Parliamentary Survey, vol.' xvii. page 259, it is stated: " Vicarage, worth 201.;"--and in 1818, at 801. per annum. Augmented in 1760, with 2001.; and in 1767, with 2001.--both by lot. " Welwick is a Vicarage, and endowed with nothing but petit tithes, a small close, and an oxgang of land, containing ten acres.
