Whenever a main drain or common sewer is ordered to be built or repaired, the Superintendent of Streets shall have charge of the same, shall ascertain its depth, breadth, mode of construction, and general direction, make a plan thereof, and record the 6ame in a book to be kept for that purpose at the office of the City Clerk, and shall from time to time ascertain and note on said plan, all entries made into such drain or sewer. Sect. 4. Said Superintendent shall keep Expenses an accurate account of the expense of con-8tructl0n" structing or repairing such common sewer or main drain, and forthwith report the same to the Mayor and Aldermen, together with a list and description of the estates receiving benefit therefrom, either by the entry of a particular drain therein, or by any more remote means; and the name of the owner of such estates. Sect. 5. The Mayor and Aldermen shall f, Y forthwith after receiving such report, assess upon every person who enters his particular drain into such main drain or common' sewer, or who, by more remote means receives benefit thereby for draining his cellar or land, such proportional part of the charge of making or repairing the same, as they deem proper; shall fix the time when said assessments shall be i paid, and certify the same to the City Treasurer, who shall forthwith give notice thereof to the party to be charged, or his tenant or lessee. And if said assessment is not paid within three months after a written demand for payment, made either upon the person assessed or upon any person occupying the estate so benefitted, the City Treasurer shall proceed to collect the same according to law. maybeac"-Sect....show more
