Excerpt from The Church Quarterly Review, Vol. 94: For April 1922-July 1922
And here let me say that the authors of the Paper attribute to me much too large a share of authority in relation to the fundamental statement which they criticize. I am not prepared to say how exactly that statement received its final shape. Every word, every phrase, was weighed and tested by many minds. Nothing escaped the most minute examination. The result which finally emerged is, consequently, one for which all who approved it were equally responsible and in which all fully shared. Let no one imagine that there is any sentence, or even word, in the Appeal which was imposed on the Conference by any dominant group, or which was dexterously inserted while the minds of those who might object were otherwise occupied.
