The most illiterate might be, and were at least faithful enough to deliver what they had. received from above. But surely in vain do the people now seek instruction from men who stand in pressing need of it themselves, themselves, and are consequently altogether incapable of giving it to others, It is at first; hearing perfectly absurd to suppose an uneducated mechanic fit tobe entrusted with the public exposition of the scriptures. It is really the highest strain of arrogance for one of this class tpi erect himself up into a Chrijiian Oratory and lead the multitude after him. A true lover of the sacred writings cannot but be disgusted to see their living beauties so miserably defaced, their inimitable frame so barbarously disjointed by a set of ignorant and assuming fanatics. Every admirer of the religion of Christ must be cruelly hurt to perceive, potest dignum re, dignum nomine Pratoris, dignum auribus hominum efficere, is mihi etiamfl commovetur in dicendo; tamen impudens videtur.
