These two groups make up by far the most important mineral spring resources of Indiana, although wells of accredited medicinal virtue are found at Greencastle, Terre Haute and Lafayette. Situated. on a branch line of the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville Railway (the Mon, on Route), leaving the main line at Orleans, and reached from the East and West by the Baltimore & Ohio Southwestern '(changing at Bedford) is this resort, nestled in the French Lick Valley, between the knobs of the Cumberland. The soil is very thin and overlies solid sandstone. The nights in summer are cool, and the winter, while cold, is not too severe. Malaria and mosquitos are unknown. Hotels and Sanitaria.: The French Lick Hotel is a very handsome hotel, just completed, and one of the finest resort houses in the D West. It is open the year round and has every facility for therapeutic baths. Bates, $3 to $5 per day. Two physicians are in attendance. Other hotels and boarding houses may be found.. Amusements: Good fishing in Lost River and French Lick Creek, hunting, riding and driving. Good golf links are maintained. Mineral Springs: The three principal springs are: (1) Pluto (the strongest); (2) Proserpine (medium), and (3) Bowles (mildest). There is also a very large "fresh Water" spring, to which little attention has been paid. The waters are saline-sulphur in character, strongly sulphurous in odor and taste.
