Not illustrated. 1908-09 edition. Excerpt: ...and cooled with ice at once separates out the pure J9-hydrazone. a-Form crystallized from pyridine formed the pyridine-,3-hydrazone compound. It was impossible to isolate the dextrorotatory form of the hydrazone, which was evidently present in the pyridine solution, by crystallization from various solvents at different temperatures. K. G. FALK. The Molecular Weight of Hexecontane. KARL STRUVE. Tech. Hochsch., Hannover. Ann., 362, 123-4 (July 9).---Myricyl iodide and K yielded hexecontane, m. Dimethylglycolurils and fl-Methylhydantoin. Emu. V1=: ITzNER. Tech. Hochsch., Hannover. Ann., 362, 125--31 (July 9).----, 'i-Methylhydantoin was best prepared from sarcosine HCl and KCNO and evaporation with HCI, the dimethylglycolurils only giving mixtures difficult to separate. Glyoxal was prepared by oxidizing paraldehyde with HNO, Methylacetylurea boiled with HCl and glyoxal yielded dimethyl--glycoluril separated into its 2 isomers, m. 285--7 and m. 230-2, by crystallization from hot H20. Either one boiled with HCI yielded the same mixture of a-and,8methylhydantoins, separated with difficulty by crystallization from MeOH and picking out the difierently formed crystals mechanically. Sarcosine hydrochloride (Ibid., 123, 261) ethyl ester (from EtOH solution and HCl) and KCNO in H., O, boiled with HCI yielded,3-metliylhydantoin, m. 152--6, ethyl methylhydantoate being formed as intermediate product. K. G. FALK. Thiozonides, a Contribution to our Knowledge of Sulphur and its Cyclic Compounds. HUGO PIRDMANN. Ann., 362, 133-73 (July 25).----Sulphur belongs to the-group of elements (C, As, P) forming 8-membered rings. Rhombic and monoclinic S have different arrangements of the bonds, plastic S is polymerized amorphous S. These rings break down on...show more
