Charles Barthell Moran (February 22, 1878 - June 14, 1949), nicknamed "Uncle Charley," was an American sportsman who gained renown as both a catcher and umpire in Major League Baseball and as a collegiate and professional football coach. Moran was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and played football for the University of Tennessee in 1897, but left after one year to go to Bethel College, where he coached football as well as playing the sport. After graduating, he became an assistant to Pop Warner at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, and played minor league baseball in 1902 for teams in Little Rock, Chattanooga and Dallas.
