In general, then, I mean to affirm that, owing to her local position and her complete separation from the State, the Episcopal Church in Scotland has been free from the inﬂuence of those causes which, in the South, gradually brought the Establishment into such a predicament as almost necessarily led to the reaction which now partially disturbs her repose.
