About Sal Levinson

Sal Levinson studied entomology at the graduate level at UC Riverside and UC Berkeley. She has worked with insects from the fields of central California, the forests of Connecticut and Idaho, to the labs of Berkeley. Over the past twenty years, she has been an active butterfly educator, using her butterfly garden to provide specimens for adult and children's classes, teacher trainings, and garden fairs. She and her brother, Bill Levinson, have made two films, "In the Company of Wild Butterflies," and "The Secret Lives of Monarchs." She lives in Berkeley with her husband and her insects. Danielle Levinson, Sal's daughter, grew up with caterpillar terrariums on the kitchen table. She has a degree in design from UC Davis. She is now a software engineer for Google and lives in Berkeley with her sister.show more
