Excerpt: ...others, whom we see fit to admit to our convention, would be considered merely as visitors, with no connection whatever to our society, as they are ineligible to membership. I would further suggest that the fiscal year for all sections, as well as the state organization, begin May 1st, at which time the new board take office and the annual dues and all moneys for the conducting of our next convention become due from that day on. Another matter of importance is the active management of the affairs of our society. The active man, whether president or secretary of our organization, is annually put to considerable expense by way of engaging a stenographer, traveling expenses, etc., which he should not be expected to hear alone. I would suggest that an appropriation of some amount be set aside for this purpose. Generally, when you pay him for his services, small as the remuneration would be, you can expect results without any excuses, and better conventions will follow. If my plan of increasing the revenue of this society is carried out, you will have sufficient additional funds to meet these additional expenses, and the association will profit by it very materially. Another very important department of our society which seems to have been overlooked at all photographic conventions, even the national, and I attribute this oversight as much as any other one thing to the lack of advancement of our profession, and that is, proper publicity. All successful enterprises, like all successful crafts, have their publicity bureau but ours. I feel that this society should have a publicity board--a committee composed of literary men, who can give out information pertaining to the interests of photography generally.
