Take a fresh aliquot rtion, representing 1 m, of solution A under soil analysis (Bul. 46, revised, p. 72 )i)n a porcelain dish, ad 10 cc phos homolybdic solution and l eva rate to dryness. Add 25 cc nitric acid wash heate to 50 C., and stir thoroug ly. Allow to cool, filter through a thick asbestos filter, and wash with sodium nitrate wash until free from acid; transfer the gooch to a tall beaker, add an excess of standard potassium hydroxid and heat nearly to boiling (any recipitate adhering to the crucible should be dissolved with the standard alkali). /llhen the precipitate is com letel y dissolved add a few drops of henolphthalein, which should show an excess of al li, and titrate back with standard' nitric acid. ASSOCIATION VORK UPON MIXED FERTILIZER. ' Mix thoroughly before sampling. 1. In sam e No. 2 determine water soluble potash (K20) according to the official method (Bu. 46 revised, p. 21). 2. In sample No. 2 determine total potash (K, O) in organic compounds by the oficial method (Bul. 46, revised, p. 22, (b) W ith or anic compounds). 3. Proposed method.--Ignite 5 grams of sample Io. 2 at dull redness to a gra ash. Transfer to 200 cc beaker, using 25 cc oi hot approximately 10 per cent hydroc loric acid to remove last traces, cover with watch glass and let simmer on hot plate for one-half hour; then add 100 cc water and to hot solution add slight excess ammonia and ammonium oxalate, cool, make up to 250, filter through dr r filter.
