Building Classroom Community: A Practical Behavior Intervention Model (Back to Basics)
This model is designed to encourage socially appropriate behavior by creating a sense of classroom and school community, and when implemented correctly has proven to decrease the number of out-of-school suspensions. Students are empowered by the opportunity this model affords to take reponsibility for their own actions within the democratic school environment, and quickly learn that they each have a voice and a role to play in creating that environment. With a total of twenty years experience as an Emotional Support Teacher, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Crisis Prevention Intervention Instructor, and Exceptional Student Specialist, I have implemented this model in my classroom with great success.
