Excerpt from Brown Alumni Monthly, Vol. 43: Summer, 1942
Hospital Evacuation Unit goes into active service, as may happen at any time, it will have more than a little tinge of Brown. This is only one outfit in which Brunonian doctors are serving or ready to serve, but it has perhaps the highest concentrar tion of alumni. A newspaper article last month said the unit was pre' pared to move at a moment's notice into a combat zone on foreign soil as part of the U. S. Army.
Chief of the unit's medical serv' ice is Dr. Herman A. Lawson '20, with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ward officers include Dr. Robert G. Murphy '28, Captain, while Dr. Irving Beck '32 is chief of labora' tory service with rank of Captain and Dr. Edward R. Squier '32, First Lieutenant, is dental surgeon.
