Organized two years ago in the midst of the world war by an optimistic group of citizens who realized the urgent need of a communit_v clearing house for the civic, commercial and industrial activities of this borough, the Chamber has steadily expanded and developed until it now has a rapidly growing membership. large and attractive quarters, and more than a score ot active committees engaged on community problems. There were no established policies to guide the Chattiber's activities; these had to be determined. There were no statistics or compilation of data to serve as a basis of studies and conclusions; these had to be compiled. There was no well defined body of opinions on these civic and industrial problems; this had to be ascertained. So that during these two years the Chamber has h.Id the task of organizing itself, getting its bearings. collecting initial information oII a great variety of local quietions and issues, and trying to determine what are the important problems which a comnIunit_v organization of this kind should attempt to solve. The Chamber cannot produce a lottg list of definite accomplishments; no two-year-old organization can. or is expected to do this, and especially in a borough as large as Brooklyn and a metropolis the size of New York: but the officers and more
