Brendan James is an American singer-songwriter originally from Derry, New Hampshire, who started in New York City but is currently residing in Pasadena, California. His second studio album Brendan James was released on September 7, 2010. James attended Pinkerton Academy in Derry for high school, then graduated in the spring of 2002 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he sang in the a cappella group the Clef Hangers. After graduating, James moved to Manhattan, New York and worked at Urban Outfitters while supporting his music career by playing East Village open mics. Later, James recorded a demo that eventually ended up being heard by Carly Simon. After hearing the demo, Simon invited James to come and sing with her at the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. After the duet, James' demo caught record-label interest and he was signed to Capitol Records by Dan McCarrol, but was dropped before releasing an album.
