The Braques fran aises (FCI breeds No. 133/134) are hunting dogs, from a very old type of gun dog used for pointing the location of game birds for a hunter. There are two breeds of Braque fran ais, both from the south of France, the Braque fran ais, type Gascogne (French Pointing Dog - Gascogne type, larger size, No. 133) and the Braque fran ais, type Pyr n es (French Pointing Dog - Pyrenean type, smaller size, No. 134.) They are popular hunting dogs in France, but are seldom seen elsewhere. Both breeds of Braque fran ais are medium to large sized dogs with long legs and long drop ears. The tail is traditionally docked but may also be long, or naturally short. The coat is short, and chestnut brown or white speckled with brown in colour, often with one or more large brown spots.
