About Alice Maldonado Gallardo
Alice Maldonado Gallardo is 49 years old. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico but at the age of 14 moved with her family to Massachusetts. She studied Latin American Studies at Mount Holyoke College where she was a Frances Perkins Scholar. After graduation she attended Loyola Law School but withdrew to pursue other interests. Alice worked as Assistant Editor and later as Web and Promotion Manager at the University of Massachusetts Press. She has also worked as a real estate appraiser, translator, secretary, substitute teacher, small business owner and web developer. Alice has been writing poetry since she was 14 years old. In 2009, she was diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma. After almost a year in the hospital she was sent home to wait for hospice. There, with the help of her sister and son, she started to heal. She is a dialysis patient waiting for her kidney transplant. Alice lives with her teenage son in Amherst, Massachusetts, and enjoys every day being grateful for everything.
