Not illustrated. 1911 edition. Excerpt: ...and Mrs. R. Lester has again entered the shoe business being located in the women's department of Berberich's. Saks & Co. show a fine window. In the centre of the display is a draped pedestal on which stands a large vase containing American Beauties, which greatly adds to the showiness of the shoes. The Family Shoe Store had a very good Hallowe'en display. The flooring of the display windows was covered with orange crepe paper having a black border. On this were shown models of their various lines. In women's shoes were shown blacks, tans, cravennettes _and velvets in all styles. The window was further decorated with imitation pumpkins in skull designs. The rumor that Gimbel Bros. are to open a department store at Thirteenth, F and G Streets, N. W., has again been denied and rumor now has it that a large theatre is to be erected on the site. This will no-doubt be denied again next week and some other kind of a plant substituted. But be that as it may, the property has been sold and there is something in the wind. The will of George H. Crane, the late member of the firm of Joseph Crane, 215 East Baltimore Street, has been admitted to probate in the Orphans' Court of Towson. His interest in the shoe business has been turned over to Alfred D. Bernard as trustee. The latter, with J. Edward Crane is to continue the business as long as it continues profitable and Mrs. Mary Frances Crane is to receive the share of the profits. Should the business be sold, Mrs. Crane is to receive a proportionate share of the proceeds of such sale. The balance of his property is given to his widow outright.
