Frequently a fowl that is beautiful when alone will shrink in quality when placed in comparison with one of its own kind. Herein lies the value of comparison, because the results are reached not only by the careful examination of each fowl, but from a comparison of the best of all so examined with one another. Every detail must be gone over just as minutely in comparison as in score-card judging. Each fowl and every section of each fowl must be as carefully considered under this as under other methods. Comparison judging has not been properly-done when a few glances only have been taken at a fowl. Each fowl must be handled as carefully under this as under other systems. Valuation, section by section, must be made; disqualifications, disqualifying weights, and proper size must be sought out as carefully in comparison judging as in any other system. The fact that comparison judging so safely selects breed characters does not imply that color has been lost sight of under the system. Color has had so much more attention than shape under score-card judging as to warrant the objection that variety color has had preference over breed characters.
