Review Text

The Chambers Book of Days was originally published in 1864 as a collection of folklore, religious festivals and etiquette associated with seasons, months and the days of the year. The 2004 edition has kept this format but also contains detailed 'on this day in history' information. It is a beautifully bound and presented book, all the title pages have the gorgeous original folio designs which certainly adds to reading pleasure. As well as its pleasing aesthetic, Chambers Book of Days is a real treasure trove: how else would we ever find out that today the is feast day of St Linus of the 1st Century? If you are curious about St Swithun's Day, or stumped about what to buy someone on their Golden wedding or you just want to know if anything cool happened on your birthday, this is the book for you. Quaint but fun to dip into, this is a must have reference book for all. (Kirkus UK)show more
