Pro per endeavours were therefore ufed to obtain fuch a tranilation; which was firft printed at New York, about the year. 171 under the direction of the Reverend Mr. Andrews, the Society s Nliflionary to the Mohawks. This edition comprized the Mom ing and Evening Service, thellitany and Catechifm; to which were added fele& pafl'ages from the Old and New Tefiaments, 'and (ome Famil prayers which probably was all that could then be procure The Communion Office, that of Baptifm, Matrimony, and Burial of the Dead, with more pafl'ages of Scripture, Occa fional Prayers, and fome finging Pfalms, were tranflated by the Reverend dr.'henry Barclay, who had ferved in the Indian Mifiion with great fidelity and fucccfs for many years; and thefe were infertedin the next edition'of the Indian Prayer Book, which was p1intcd all'o at New York, in 1769, under the in fpe tion of the Reverend Dr. John Ogilvie, who fucceeded Dr. Barclay in that Mifiion. Both thefe clergymen were eminent for the1r piety and exemplary chara ter, and their meniory, will long be revered by the Indians.
