About A M Holliday

A.M. Holliday is an award winning dramatist and independent media producer. Body Magic is her first book of literature with co-writer Dawn Dawkins. Their book of tales celebrating voluptuous and plus size women in contemporary America is a collection of short stories, memoir, and non-fiction interviews. Chicago born and raised, A.M. Holliday grew up in a music lovers household where Sunday church service was her father's DJ set. She was also a playwright apprentice with Gallery 37 and participated in the underground hip hop movement as a designer, lyricist, and DJ. Her desire to tell the stories of women often overlooked and misrepresented in society grew from finding a way to speak up for herself as an artist and a young girl who never felt safe in her community nor her body. She became a storyteller to create that safe space. A.M. Holliday loves to write and produce works fusing pop culture and mythology with a cultural anthropology perspective. She has received an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing and an M.A. in African Diaspora Media from New York University. A former assistant to Spike Lee and a CBS TV show Writer's Assistant, her work ranges from television and film to theater and journalism. Researcher, educator, creative arts facilitator and social services consultant are other professional titles she has held. Since 2009 she has been a Dramatist Guild Fellow, Kennedy Center MFA Workshop recipient, Freedom Train Productions resident playwright, and a Lorraine Hansberry Playwrighting Award winner. A.M. Holliday currently resides in Brooklyn, New York
