William "Billy" Hogg was an English footballer who played at outside right, winning the Football League championship with Sunderland in 1901-02, before moving to Scotland where he won the Scottish League title three times with Rangers. He also made three appearances for England in 1902. Hogg was born in Sunderland and was playing local football with Willington Athletic when he was spotted by Sunderland where he became a professional in October 1899. He made his debut on 2 December 1899, scoring in a 5-0 victory over Notts County. He soon became a regular fixture in the outside-right berth and in his first season Sunderland finished third in the League, with Hogg having made 19 appearances with six goals.
