Excerpt: ...says that from time to time the camp has had a population of about 400 people, that about thirty-five horses and several head of cattle have been kept there, and that the well referred to has furnished all the water required; that there has never been the least sign of any falling off in the supply, but, to the contrary, that as the pump was operated by a windmill, and no particular attention was paid to it, fully one-fourth of the water was wasted. He further says that for the past thirty years he has been engaged in various railroad, timber, wood, and stone contracts, etc., principally in the copper country, so-called, of the upper peninsula, and at none of his camps has he had water of so good a quality, or a more ample supply than at the camp above referred to in Luce county. He further says that he has no interests whatever in Luce county or in the eastern portion of the upper peninsula, except the wood contract hereinbefore referred to, and that his interests will be in no wise affected by the location of any proposed State institutions at Newberry in said county of Luce.
