God be praised that we have sold 4,120 Bibles, Testaments, and portions this past year. Many thousands of Italians are working as masons, etc., in Switzerland in the summer time, and in the winter time they go back over the mountains to their homes. Last summer we built a large house in Horgen, a home for old Christian ladies. were working on the house. We gave every man a new Italian Testament, and the chief of them a Bible when the house was ready. The Italians were glad for these presents. Our preachers go to them in every place where we are building a church or a house. The good these Bibles have done can be seen from the following: Three waiters went over the St. Gothard and talked together of the experiences of the last season. One of them said: "The past season has been the best in all my life. I have had to serve a very sick gentleman in a mountain hotel, who saw one day that the end of his life was near and was very sorrowful. ' Is there nobody here who can help a dying man?' asked the poor patient." A pastor was not to be had in the mountains, and the waiter could not help. The unhappy gentleman took the hand of the waiter and said, weeping, " Please, please say but a good word of comfort for my poor soul."
