After reaching the end of the Oregon Trail Patrick and Rachel O'Riley have to make some hard choices... "But Patrick," Rachel protested, "we can't settle here. You can't farm this land." Patrick looked down at her. "Rachel, it 'as been nearly three weeks now, and ye are still so weak. I should not 'hiv brought ye 'ere in the first place. Bit, I'll not make the same mistake twice. Ye are not able to travel." Rachel studied his face for some time. She knew that he was disappointed about not being able to settle near the coastline. "Now Mrs. O'Riley," he began, "don't ye start to thinking thit all 'as gone wrong. Semtimes our plans do not fit into God's plans. Now, 'tis mich better to follow our Lord's design than to disobey by stubbornly continuing down our own path when 'E 'as blocked our way." How she loved that tall, gentle man. Yes, everything would work out fine. Then a new thought struck her. "But who will you preach to? Surely there are no other families here. And logging men are not known for being church goers." Patrick laughed and lightly squeezed her hand. His eyes twinkled with delight. Rachel sighed and smiled up at him. As long as Patrick could still laugh, everything would be all right.

About Sally Demaray Hull

Sally Demaray Hull wrote her first novel at age seventeen: The Trail Beyond. She set the manuscript aside when she left her home in Gladwin Michigan for college in Canada at Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College. Following this three year course, she attended Mid Michigan Community College and Central Michigan University, studying to be a teacher. After college, she pulled out the manuscript of The Trail Beyond and rewrote it. Over the years she has rewritten it a dozen times. Shortly after the first re-write, she wrote a sequel: Beyond the Trail. The next thing she knew, she was writing fulltime. Over the years she became her parents' caregiver, a teacher in a Christian school and a substitute teacher in the public schools. She also taught TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in China for two years and earned her TESOL certificate from the Canadian National Institute. Though she has had various occupations, writing has always been present in her life. Most of her book covers are from the photos her husband Charlie has taken, being a photographer and a writer himself. Sally's desire is that her books help people to know God better.
